When is Analog better than Digital?

When you can super-sample the image and average over several frames (which the "Snappy" still frame-grabber can do) you can get more image resolution from the TRV900 than a firewire transfer which is fixed at 720 pixels per scanline. This only works "live", not in playback from tape, and only if your camera and everything in the scene is absolutely motionless. Click on the image below to see the full frame from the Snappy in high-resolution, 1500x1125 frame grab. The TRV900 seems to clearly do better than the 540 line theoretical limit for DV, as you can see. It appears to have in the neighborhood of 600 lines of resolution "live", by this test.
